Bilancia La Collina Syrah | 2007

At the cutting edge of New Zealand Syrah, the spectacular 2.5 hectare La Collina vineyard is precariously perched on the side of Roy’s Hill overlooking the Gimblett Gravels a la the dramatic vineyards of Cote Rotie and Hermitage. This is the most spectacular yet of the five vintages and that’s got to do with aging vines and the fabulous 2007 vintage the Hawke's Bay has enjoyed. It’s an elegant eruption of spring flowers, opulent black fruits, a whiff of cracked pepper, fragrant spices and the smells of Charcuterie. The mouth feel is utterly seductive with a finely creamed centre shrouded by grainy cocoa like tannin that embraces a lavish array of black fruits, spices, Valrhona chocolate, organic liquorice, smoked meats and cracked pepper. It has incredible concentration and a deeply reaching finish imbued with elegant notes of crème de cassis and a hint of espresso, a Syrah of irrefutable excellence that would compete or rival the very finest in the world. A seamless perfectly balanced expression in its youth but must be the ultimate cellar Syrah with potential to age 10-15 years and beyond of carefully stored
